Operation Impact: From Legacy to Leadership

The Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalry built their reputation on excellence under impossible conditions. Operation Impact is the Buffalo Soldiers Association of West Point's intergenerational program serving both students and veterans in our community. We run the program in collaboration with the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club (NABSTMC)  alongside community organizations, veteran service organizations, and fellow nonprofits committed to youth development and veteran engagement.

Each program year, Operation Impact continues to grow as a living network of education and service. It brings Buffalo Soldiers descendants, educators, and veterans into schools, community centers, and public forums, sharing lived experiences that connect history to leadership and civic responsibility.

Our Youth Initiatives engage students through experiential learning: hands‑on projects, service collaborations, and creative storytelling that make history personal and purposeful. These programs inspire young people to see themselves as stewards of legacy, leaders who carry forward the values of courage, unity, and resilience.

Our veteran initiatives strengthen connection and purpose among veterans. These programs honor service while fostering camaraderie, leadership, and continued contribution, ensuring that those who have served remain vital voices in education, civic life, and community renewal.

Through educational and social programs, from heritage parades to commemorative events, we foster connection, well‑being, and shared purpose among veterans while inspiring youth to carry forward the Buffalo Soldiers’ legacy. As we expand nationally, we focus on deep partnerships that amplify impact, ensuring the Buffalo Soldiers’ story continues to educate, heal, and inspire communities across America and beyond.

This is the work that turns the Buffalo Soldier legacy from history into a living force for the children who carry it forward, and for the veterans who live it every day.
